2022 Ford Ranger Details

Unveiled in 2021, fans of the Ford Ranger series have been eagerly awaiting the particulars of the shiny new Ford Ranger.

It's among the top car launches we're excited about in 2022. 

Built in Thailand and engineered in Australia, we can finally bring you the key specifications and model characteristics before it arrives in Australian showrooms in mid-2022.

What To Expect

There will be five options of Ranger to choose from at launch time - XL, XLS, XLT, Sport and Wildtrak. The updated Raptor model will keep us waiting even longer as it's due to arrive in 2023.

At this stage, Ford says although many details about the new Ranger series have been released they are not final and concrete and that certain features on each production model may alter slightly as we get closer to the release date, meaning that we will have to wait and see what the final option will be like. The Ranger series has thus far earned a solid reputation as a workhorse of a vehicle and we're sure it will improve upon previous years Rangers.

Engine & Power

The lineup of Rangers will consist of three engine types all of which are diesel: the most powerful will be the turbo 3.0 litre V6, there's a 2.0-litre single-turbo four-cylinder model and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder model.

The V6 model will host an upgraded engine for those who like plenty of power and will also offer part-time four-wheel drive. This kind of luxurious power will be typical on both the V6 and the XLS model but will come as an optional extra on the XL entry-level model.

At the time of writing specifics on the torque, vehicle weight, towing ability, exterior dimensions and off-road measurements are unknown. They will be confirmed closer to launch.

At the Ford Rangers global reveal we were treated to a plethora of dual-cab photos whereas only one picture of the space cab was released. We've seen nothing of the single cab. As with other details, we're sure to find out closer to the time.

Little is known about the body types that will be offered throughout the Ranger range.

What Else Do We Know?

The entry-level XL model shows a daring front grille that comes in black, black cloth trim, steel 16-inch wheels all as standard. On the tech side of the specs, the XL also sports a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and 8.0-inch digital instrument display panel. Both will be coming as standard.

Moving up through the models on the XLS front 16-inch alloys and fog lights at the front come on the standard list. The XLT starts getting luxurious with 17-inch wheels that come in alloy, custom interior trim, a grille bar that is beautiful in chrome and LED headlights.

Next on the list is the Sport model. This one offers massive machined 18-inch wheels, possible leather seats. Until the Raptor is released sometime next year the Wildtrak will be the range-topping option. We can reveal this offers a larger 12-inch screen, Orange interior colours along with a choice of exterior colours and grey-finished 18-inch wheels.

The Wildtrak will have an exclusive featured cargo management system. The box step at the rear of the Ranger will only be available on certain models, the entry-level XL and its big brother the XLS will have a tailgate ruler as standard, whereas the Sport and Wildtrak model will offer two front tow hooks the XLT, XLS and XL will offer only a single front tow hook.

With such a range of options and extras choosing is going to be no easy task. Luckily for us, we've maybe six months to make our final decision and save our dollars for any special extras we may want.

Due to going on sale in Australia in mid-2022 the next-generation Ford Ranger has already got a lot to be excited about.
